Descriptions of Officers
House of Delegates Representative — Chief Delegate, Alternate Delegate
Policy
Delegates are to be appointed by the Board based on the number of apportioned by, and policies set forth by the AAPA.
Delegates and Alternates must be fellow members in good standing of ConnAPA and AAPA.
The President shall serve as Chief Delegate to the AAPA House of Delegates. In the event that the President in unable to attend the AAPA House of Delegates, an appointed Chief Delegate will be named.
The term for delegates to the AAPA House of Delegates shall begin July 15, with the exception of those delegates representing the Student Academy.
Responsibilities of Chief Delegate
- Orient new Connecticut Academy HOD members.
- Review HOD process, orient to handbook and registration process.
- Attend the Northeastern Regional Meeting at the annual AAPA conference and report on this meeting to the President.
- Coordinate activities of the HOD such as securing proper credentialing and submitting proper paper work to the AAPA/HOD.
- Solicit Board interest in submitting resolutions to HOD.
- Prepare and submit resolutions to the HOD as directed by the Board.
- Coordinate meeting of delegates and alternate delegates as necessary to prepare for HOD and review resolutions submitted to the HOD.
- Submit a copy of the Summary of Actions to BOD.
- Encourage participation of delegates and alternate delegates during the HOD session.
- Assist in recruiting HOD candidates for delegate and alternate positions for following year.
Responsibilities of Delegate/ Alternate Delegate
- Attend AAPA Annual Conference and HOD sessions.
- Participate actively in HOD sessions.
- Junior delegate(s) should publish an article concerning their experience in the HOD, and outcome of the House.
Competencies
- Strong leadership and diplomacy skills.
- Ease in public speaking.
- Ability to attend and remain alert during long HOD sessions.
Time Commitment, Chief Delegate
- Attend Board meetings as requested by the Board.
- Travel to AAPA Annual Conference and attend all HOD Reference Committee Hearings and HOD sessions.
- Preparation of resolutions
- Review HOD Handbook, prepare for meetings with delegates.
Time Commitment, Delegate and Alternate Delegate
- Travel to AAPA Annual Conference and attend HOD Reference Committee Hearings and HOD sessions.
- Review HOD Handbook, prepare for meetings with chief delegate.
Annual Calendar
August
- Submit names of Connecticut’s delegates and alternates to AAPA
September
- May attend ConnAPA Board of Directors meetings held through out the year.
October
- Submit paper work for credentialing of delegates and alternates to AAPA.
January
- Registration for AAPA annual Conference and HOD.
- Submit to AAPA any resolutions or policy changes agreed upon by the delegation.
February
- Reservations for housing should be made, as well as airline reservations.
April
- Receive HOD handbook or CD. Review resolutions.
May
- Attend HOD at annual AAPA Conference
- Attend Northeastern Regional Meeting
June
- Appoint delegates and alternates for the following year AAPA HOD.
- Junior delegate submit article to ConnAPA news on experience and HOD actions.
- May attend ConnAPA Board meeting.
