Impairment Committee
Purpose
Provide a vehicle for the impaired (chemically, mentally or otherwise) physician assistant to identify options for the treatment of that PA’s problem.
Make Up
The Committee is made up fellow ConnAPA members and other parties selected by the Chair. The President is an ex-officio member of the Committee.
Responsibilities
- Receive and respond to all inquiries regarding PA impairment issues.
- Maintain confidentiality of inquiries and activity of the Committee as protected under Connecticut state privacy laws.
- Document referrals to assistance and intervention programs.
- Provide resources for the constituency, BOD and staff.
- Assist members according to policy.
- Upon receiving evidence of completion of a recognized treatment program provide a letter of recommendation documenting the impaired practitioner's compliance with treatment.
- Maintain liaison and resource information.
- Provide a report to the President biannually.
- Provide a report to the general membership at the annual meeting.
- Establish an annual budget.
Competencies
- Experience in addiction medicine and/or EAP is desirable.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Availability on short notice.
Time Commitment
Variable depending on requests for assistance.
