Descriptions of Officers

Regional Director

Policy

Each of the five (5) Regional Directors is elected by the general membership for a two-year term. They must be fellow members in good standing of the AAPA and ConnAPA. The five Regional Directors shall choose one person to be the “Chief ‘Regional Director.” The chief is the primary contact for the Regional Directors.

The Regional Director will represent the assigned constituency. The five Regional Directors will represent their respective districts which roughly parallel congressional districts I through V.

Region I: Northeast Connecticut, including Hartford
Region II: Southeast Connecticut
Region III: Central Connecticut
Region IV: Southwest Connecticut
Region V: Northwest Connecticut

The elections of the Regional Directors will be conducted as outlined by the Election of ConnAPA Officers Policy. If a regional director vacancy occurs, it will be filled in accordance with ConnAPA Bylaws.

Responsibilities

  1. Serve as liaison between the BOD and the constituency.
  2. Submit a written or oral report at each BOD meeting.
  3. Assist fellow officers as needed.
  4. Submit an article at least annually for the ConnAPA newsletter. Each Regional Director is responsible for at least one submission annually.
  5. Attend all officially designated Board and Academy business meetings.
  6. Uphold all the responsibilities of a Board Member as outlined in the ConnAPA Bylaws.
  7. Maintain and facilitate open communication between the Board and ConnAPA membership.
  8. Serve as a member of a committee or committee chairperson if appointed.
  9. Serve as ex officio member of the Legislative and CME Committees.
  10. Periodically review and recommend revision of this position description as needed.
  11. Periodically review and recommend revision of the ConnAPA policy manual as needed.
  12. Mentor one student member.
  13. Provide a report to the President biannually.
  14. Provide a report to the general membership at the annual meeting.
  15. Establish an annual budget.

Time Commitment

This position requires approximately 2-5 hours a month.
Attend and represent ConnAPA at regional CME events and meetings.
May require considerable travel.

Other Considerations

The Regional Director plays a very unique and important role in the organization. The position requires the Director to wear many hats within the organization and assist fellow officers when the workload becomes burdensome. One of the advantages of this position is that the experience gained can very useful in obtaining a more prominent role within the organization. Regional Directors should serve on multiple committees and assist the Secretary with the organization of elections. The Regional Directors are also some of the most visible leaders of ConnAPA because of the role of liaison to the constituency.
