ConnAPA Past and Present: A Review of the Last Decade
Jeanine Sico, PA-C

ConnAPA has had many accomplishments over the past 10 years.  We have expanded our prescriptive privileges, gained the right to sit on medical advisory panels, and clarified PA supervision requirements.

In 2007, we helped to found HAVEN (Health Assistance Intervention Education Network), a confidential program to aid those health care professionals that are suffering from chemical dependency or mental illness and most recently saw passage of the fluoroscopy bill, allowing PAs to continue using fluoroscopy.  These changes have been brought about by you, your ConnAPA representatives, and our lobbying efforts.

The ConnAPA Board of Directors, committee chairs, and committee members are hardworking, dedicated professionals that are passionate about the Physician Assistant profession.  Their devotion is evident, and I enjoy working with them.  We are a relatively young profession that is continuing to evolve.  Who will be available when issues arise?  There is strength in numbers, which is why we encourage you to talk with your PA colleagues and reiterate why it is so important for us to have representation.

These are only a few of the many great efforts that we are able to put forth with your membership dollars.  A large portion of your dues goes towards lobbying.  Without this funding we would be unable to be “present at the table” when proposed bills that potentially affect the way we practice are being discussed.  This, in turn, dictates our ability to care effectively for our patients.

Allow ConnAPA to have the tools necessary to accomplish our goals by continuing your membership, encouraging others to join, and volunteering your time to serve.
